FAQ
Welcome to our FAQ page!  Here you can find answers
to common lawn problems with a single click!
(If you don't have a lawn, but want to know how to prepare
your area, check at the bottom of the page for answers.)
I have patchy or bare areas.  You probably need to water.  Newly hydroseeded lawns
need to be watered every day when there is no significant rainfall.  This should be
done 1 to 3 times a day, depending on the temperature, and should continue until
the first mowing or until lawn fullness has occurred.  Avoid puddling for the first two
weeks.
I have slow growth, thin areas or grass that is light green to yellow in color. You
probably need to fertilize.  Properly fertilized lawns will be growing vigorously and
be medium to dark green in color.  If your lawn does not fit this description, you
have not fertilized soon enough, you did not use enough fertilizer or you used a
fertilizer with too low of nitrogen.  *Note* the first number on the fertilizer bag should
be 20 or higher.  This is the nitrogen.  The other numbers don't matter.
I have weeds.  Fertilize, fertilize, fertilize!  All screened topsoils contain weed seed.
Weeds NEVER come from Grass Master's hydroseed mixture.  A well-fertilized lawn
will crowd weeds out.  A weed & feed can be used after 60 days.  And again, the first
fertilizer number should be 20 or above.
What should I do about mushrooms?  Mushrooms are common in the Northwest,
but will not have any adverse effects on your lawn.  If you don't like the way they
look, simply mow over them when they appear.
Preparing your area for hydroseed.
How do I prepare my area?  Well, we recommend at least 4 inches of topsoil as a
base.  There are certain soil suppliers that are better than others; if you give us a
call, we can provide you with the names and numbers of those whom we
recommend.
If you have existing vegetation, you will need to spray it with
Round-Up (this is the safest herbicide and the one we recommend) or pull them up
yourself.
What about rocks?  You need to remove large rocks and any rocks that
cannot be covered by 4 inches of soil.
Finally, a couple of day's notice works fine in most instances.  Just give us a
call and we'll put you on the schedule.  We also work on Saturdays for your
convenience.

Do I have to water more in the summer?  Absolutely! In months where we've had
no significant rainfall and the temperature is over 70 degrees, it is important to
water, water, water.
A newly hydroseeded lawn should be watered 5-6 times a day for 10 minutes each
time.  After it has been mowed at least once, the watering can be done in the
morning and afternoon.  Newly applied seed should never be allowed to "bake" in
the sun for long periods of time.  After 30 days, remember to apply fertilizer with a
broadcaster spreader.  It should be granulated and the first number (the nitrogen)
should be 20 or above
